Eating Disorder Caregiver Consultation for Parents & Caregivers
Compassionate guidance and practical approaches to help families and professionals navigate eating disorder recovery.
Support for Parents and Caregivers Navigating an Eating Disorder
When your child, teen, or young adult is struggling with an eating disorder, it's normal to feel overwhelmed, unsure how to help, and uncertain about what comes next.
You may be asking yourself:
- Is this an eating disorder or something else? Should I be concerned?
- How do I respond when my child refuses to eat or pushes back?
- What if I am making things worse?
- My child has a treatment team but I am not sure what to do between appointments?
- How do I navigate all the decisions that come with treatment recommendations?
These are some of the most common questions I hear from parents and caregivers—and you don't have to figure out the answers on your own.
How I Help Parents
Understand the Why
We'll make sense of what's happening beneath the eating disorder behaviors so you better understand why your child is responding the way they are.
Learn the How
You'll gain practical strategies for navigating meals, responding to resistance, communicating more effectively, setting supportive boundaries, and putting treatment recommendations into practice at home.
Strengthen Your Confidence
Parents need support, too. Our sessions provide a place to ask questions, work through challenges, reduce overwhelm, and leave with greater clarity about what to do next.
Families are not bystanders in recovery.
When parents understand what's happening, know how to respond, and feel more confident in their role, they become one of the greatest strengths in the recovery process.
My Role Is to Support You
I don't provide therapy for your child. I support you so that you can best support your child.
While your child, teen, or young adult works with their therapist, dietitian, physician, or treatment team, my focus is on helping you navigate everything that happens between appointments.
With more than 25 years of experience treating eating disorders across every level of care, I provide evidence-informed caregiver consultation, drawing on approaches like Family-Based Treatment (FBT) and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), to help parents understand what's happening, learn how to respond, and feel more supported throughout the recovery process.
Recovery doesn't happen only in therapy. It happens in life, especially at home. It is during meal times, difficult conversations, everyday routines, and the countless decisions families make each day. My goal is to help you feel better prepared for those moments so they feel less overwhelming and more manageable.
