Why I Created AK Chase Consulting: A Personal Commitment to Eating Disorder Advocacy and Support

Dr. Allison Chase Eating Disorder Consultant

For the past 25 years, my professional calling has centered around helping individuals reclaim their lives from the grips of eating disorders. Over the course of my career as a clinical psychologist specializing in eating disorder treatment and providing treatment at all levels of care, I’ve witnessed both the devastating toll these illnesses can take on not only the individual, but also the family. I’ve also been able to see the extraordinary resilience that recovery reveals. It’s this passion — and a growing need within our communities for informed, compassionate, and strategic support — that led me to establish AK Chase Consulting.

Impact of Eating Disorders

Eating disorders remain among the most misunderstood and stigmatized mental health conditions, despite being both common and serious. Anorexia nervosa has the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness, and yet many individuals still struggle in silence, often without access to appropriate care or understanding. Families, schools, healthcare systems, and communities alike are frequently unprepared to identify early signs, navigate treatment options, or build environments that foster recovery. I believe we can change that, and AK Chase Consulting was created to help lead the way.

My Approach:

Through my consulting practice, I work alongside parents and caregivers, other mental health professionals, medical providers and schools to provide tailored support that includes compassionate guidance and practical approaches to help navigate eating disorder recovery. All services are offered virtually, which means I can provide support wherever you are. I combine science, collaboration, empathy and decades of hands-on clinical work to help families turn uncertainty into clear steps forward.

Consulting, Not Therapy

I’m a licensed Psychologist in Texas and have extensive clinical expertise, but it is important to note that my consulting services are not therapy or psychological treatment. This means I can’t provide a diagnosis or clinical treatment – I provide education, support and clear actionable guidance to support those suffering with eating disorder struggles.

Beyond clinical consulting, I am passionate about public advocacy and professional training. One of the most effective ways to combat the misinformation and stigma surrounding eating disorders is through education and training. I regularly speak at conferences and provide information for media outlets to ensure that eating disorder awareness and treatment information is accurate, responsible, and grounded in the latest clinical research.

Eating disorders don’t exist in isolation — they intersect with cultural, social, and personal factors in complex ways. That’s why a collaborative, community-informed approach is so essential to making meaningful progress. Through AK Chase Consulting, I hope to continue building partnerships that prioritize respect, recovery, and lasting change.

If you’re a parent or caregiver, professional, or a family seeking guidance, resources, or partnership in addressing eating disorders, I welcome the opportunity to connect.
